Bamboo: Building & Cultivation

Workshop from the 14^th to 17^th of June 2013 and in July a date to be set

Location: Bambuparque , located in Portugal, 200 km south of Lisbon and 10 km from the ocean. (Nearest City: Odemira 12 km)

Language of instruction: Portuguese / French / English

Instructors:

Celina Llerena: Brazilian architect specialized in bamboo construction. She is the founder and manager of a training center in Brazil teaching how to build with bamboo. (www.ebiobambu.com.br)

Yves Crouzet: Horticultural engineer involved in bamboo for nearly forty years (At La Bambouseraie de Prafrance until 2004, now at Bambuparque.) www.bambuparque.com

Price: 485 € (lunch included)
Overnight accommodation on the farm from 18 to 64 € per night depending on comfort level including breakfast.

The Use of Bamboo : what you need to know to use this amazing plant

The choice of canes (culms =)
Pole harvesting.
Treatments, proper drying and storage of poles.
Morphology, characteristics and mechanical properties of bamboo.
Techniques of construction.
As exercise, construction of a pavilion of 45 m2

- Physiology of bamboo.

- Plantation management.
